Abstract: A luxury Bellevue Hill mansion once owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been sold for a double-digit sum.

Elliott Placks and James Keenan of Ray White Double Bay and co-brokers Alex Lyons and Charlie Davies of Raine and Horne Double Bay were silent on the price on the day of Tuesday's scheduled auction.

But reliable independent sources said the 726-square-metre, five-bedroom, six-bathroom home at 2C Bulkara Road with a swimming pool fetched $10.95 million, the upper limit of the agents' $10 million to $11 million guide.

The seller was Scott Gray-Spencer, former executive director of CBRE and current director of SGS Real Estate, who bought the property in 2016 for around $6 million.

But the property has a colourful history.

Montjola was previously owned by Darley Australia - a division of the coloured horse breeding company controlled by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.

Goldophin breeds horses in Australia, France, Japan, Ireland, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The racing business bought the mansion in 2008 for $5.25 million as a local haven, but sold it to Gray Spencer in 2016.

On the ground floor of the Montjola, each room has French doors that open onto the terrace and garden.

The formal lounge has a classic stone fireplace; there is a separate dining room and a marble kitchen.
