Abstract: Woo hoo! The Palm Beach house associated with the late George Michael quickly sold for a new beachfront record, even though it fell short of the advertised $15 million guideline.

The five-bedroom pavilion-style home didn't take long to trade either - it took just 37 days to sell to locals as a permanent home.

The late British singer-songwriter, the man behind hits such as 'Careless Whisper', 'Faith' and 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go', visited Sydney on a whirlwind tour of Australia in 2010 and was drawn to the cliffside property at 333 Whale Beach Road.

Records show it sold in June 2020 for $5.8 million and the property was known locally as George Michael's house.

The agent at the time was evasive about the star's connection to the house. He certainly stayed in Sydney longer than he had planned and had a great time in the house. But he may well have just rented it, rather than buying it.

B.J. Edwards of LJ Hooker Palm Beach said that there were three buyers for the house and they liked the fact that every room had an ocean view.

The house now holds the record for a house with an ocean view, with the previous record for a house at 339 Whale Beach Rd, which traded in 2021, being $12 million.

Palm Beach is home to some of Sydney's most expensive real estate. According to CoreLogic, the record set last year was $27.5 million for a house on the saddle in a suburb with views of Pittwater and the Pacific Ocean.

There were also $27 million sales at Iluka Rd and Snapperman's Beach, but some of the suburb's most valuable properties have yet to trade. A house on Ocean Rd came on the market late last year for $40 million, but has yet to sell.

Former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins and her husband Jack Wall have reportedly sold their clifftop home in Whale Beach for close to $30 million, even before they finished building.

The star died of heart failure in 2016 at the age of 53 after a battle with drugs and alcohol.

The designer house had been a popular summer rental, charging $2,000 per night.

David Edwards, agent for LJ Hooker Palm Beach, said the five-bedroom luxury home with a waterfall pool had some of the best coastal views he had seen in Palm Beach.

It is located on a small headland point between Whale Beach and Palm Beach and is set on more than 600 square metres. Utz Sanby designed the villa in 1990 to take advantage of the north-east and 180-degree views of the central coast.
